For 15 years I have spoken with many women who have been facing divorce fears – all ages, and with varied income levels and family sizes. Throughout it all there has been one common denominator.
In some cases it related to finances, in others it related to children, and of course many related to the emotional aspects of the divorce itself. I say related, because this one common denominator was not related to the divorce process itself.
Almost every single individual had major concerns that circled the question
“How am I going to survive AFTER the divorce?”
This is not “rocket science.” You see it every day with men as well as women. If you look at a past issue of People Magazine, you will see that the celebrity Michael Strahan had the same concerns. And it’s no wonder.
If you’re thinking about divorce you’re likely in an emotional turmoil and may have been for some time now. For whatever the reason, change is imminent, but you can’t see the forest through the trees.
If you’ve been investigating the divorce process, there are an overwhelming number of unknowns. And the fears you may have relating to how it will be when you reach the end of the process are substantiated.
How can you overcome these divorce fears? The simple answer is – BE PREPARED.
Be Prepared Emotionally.
Be Prepared Financially.
Be Prepared Socially.
Get yourself stabilized and organized. Explore what your future can realistically look like and take the steps to get yourself there. Take one step at a time.
Be methodical and put together your “dream team” to help you do this. Initially it should include a financial specialist and possibly a counselor. Eventually you may seek an attorney, mediator, or both.
It’s true that after divorce your life will be different. Everything will be different. That doesn’t mean it can’t be good.
Whether the love light went out, you felt betrayed, or you were blind sided, you CAN land on your feet.
